FREE Presentation open to the public on Victorian Hair Work as an Art Form

Wednesday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn, 768 Main Street, Presque Isle

Presque Isle Historical Society will be giving a FREE presentation on Wednesday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m.  Hair has played a large role in all aspects of society for centuries.  As a result, it has made it into our vernacular with phrases such as "let your hair down", "splitting hairs", "pulling his hair out" and more.  Hair work is the practice of using human hair to create a piece of art that could be displayed or worn.  Although the practice began as early as the Middle Ages, it was the Victorians who raised it to an art form.  Join Presque Isle Historical Society to learn more about this unusual form of art with historical artifacts such as human hair brooches, watch fobs, and wreaths on hand for up close viewing.  (This presentation is part of the Society's quarterly FREE and Open to the Public Lecture Series.  Join us each quarter for more interesting historical presentations!)
